Luke Tamu — Emmanuel Community Center Kenya

For the past 3 years, I have had on-going contact with Luke Tamu of Emmanuel Community Centers of Kenya.  Luke Tamu has stayed in my home on numerous occasions.  Luke Tamu has attended several conferences and speaking engagements with me.  Luke Tamu has invited me to bring a team to minister at Emmanuel Community Center in Kenya with their orphanage and Bible College.  Although I have not traveled there personally, other American churches have now taken teams to do various ministry projects with Luke Tamu and Emmanuel Community Centers.

If you are contacted by Luke Tamu of Emmanuel Community Centers in Kenya to partner with them in ministry, there are several contacts that can help you to make a wise decision about how to best partner with Luke Tamu and Emmanuel Community Centers.  I would be happy to provide references to assist your decisions.  Email me at Kevin@CrossHillChurch.org and I can provide you with the contact information needed to properly research your ministry partnership with Luke Tamu and Emmanuel Community Centers.

This may not be the most eloquent post I have ever written, but it may serve Jesus Christ and His church better than any other I have written.  I wish something would have shown up on a google search when I first considered partnering with Luke Tamu and Emmanuel Community Center of Kenya….

  1. I am a Kenyan living in Toronto Canada and knew Luke as far back as 1986. We reconnected about three years ago due to my work in Kenya.
I have very many emails between Luke and myself. I remained puzzled by the fact that there is no website of his work in Kenya, or any evidence of Emmanuel churches actually there. I desperately want to believe brother Luke Tamu, but encounter so many contradictions and deceptions that I do not know what I am dealing with. When I share about our work in his own back-door (Bunyore Kenya) and ask if there is any Missionary work there, he does not acknowledge these email. He has said he sponsors huge orphanages in Uganda. I share that we have work in Uganda and ask just where these orphanages are. Such emails do not get a response. Who actually works with Brother Luke in Kenya? Does he have a name, and a physical location? Am I in order to ask? Thanks.

I remain puzzled by the fact that there is no website of his work in Kenya, or any evidence of Emmanuel churches he has planted at work. Luke once sent me a long email where he taught me how to effectively build a website and use it. He also said he had gained this experience from a senior position he once held with World Vision. Yet there is no website backing up Emmanual churches work in Kenya. He then sent me an email last year saying “in three months” a website would be up (that is almost year ago). I then asked him a direct question: “does TAO really exist?” He said “yes”, gave me a person with just one name in Kenya as evidence and asked me to email him. That also is a year ago. I desperately want to believe brother Luke Tamu, but encounter so many contradictions and deceptions inconsistencies, etc that I do not know what I am dealing with. He then once promised a sponsorship in Nambale Kenya of “up to 300 kids”, pending “approval” from his board in NewZealand. That was two years ago. He has not said anything further on this subject. Who actually works with Brother Luke in Kenya? Does this person have a name, a physical location? This is not an accusation, neither is it witch-hunting. I have an email or two from Luke to back up every area I have touched in this text. Thanks.

  3. It is my understanding that “Emmanuel Community Centre” no longer exist as a socio-religous entity (it is doubtful it ever actually did in the first place). Regardless, it had a name change last month, to the best of my understanding. It is also unclear whether a person called “Dr. Luke Tamu” in association with “Emmanuel Community Centre” also exists outside of emails on the internet.
I knew of “Luke Tamu” back in the early 90s in Kenya, but what is being posted on the web today as being “Luke Tamu” bears very little similarity. The internet “Dr. Luke Tamu” writes fiction, then seems to believe his own fiction to the point of sending out mass emails to people about it. He does this roughly every three weeks.
Does anyone else other than “Dr Luke Tamu know Luke Tamu?

  4. Luke Tamu Says:

The information posted by Mr Erickson is inaccurate and incorrect. While Mr Erickson is entitled to his views, it is unfortunate that he has been misinformed. A majority of people have attested to the contrary. I used to know Mr Ayienga (whose response above is also inaccurate and based on personal vandetta) over 20 years ago and he has never visited Emmanuel or donated anything.

  5. Zabde-Ezra Ayienga Says:

Luke has since approached Pastor Kevin seeking for these entries to be deleted. I got a cc of this email.
I made it clear that I have issues regarding the factual correctness of what “Dr” Tamu has made available to the World on the web. I am concerned about the INTENT of these deliberate non-truths in conjunction with the monthly mass emails apparently meant to validate the scattered web postings Luke has made about himself.
    1. He has posted that Emmanuel Community Centre is building (or has built) a hospital in Busia District Kenya, This is my home town. There is no hospital built by ECC in this district. This is a LIE.
    2. I am in close contact with natives of Luke’s own immediate community of Bunyore in Western province Kenya. A Bible college which Luke says has admitted students from the UK and is founded by himself and is called Utatu Theological College does not exist.
    3. Luke says of himself that he is a philanthropist.
There is no social program operating in Kenya today that can offer credibility to the philanthropic activities of “Dr” Luke Tamu.
    4. Emmanuel Community Church/Center is presented as being an organization of churches led by Luke, across sub Saharan Africa (including Australia and Newzealand). So far no other person ever speaks about this Goliath-size institution except Luke in his monthly “evangelism” emails.
Luke himself offers a contradictory contact address. He provides a street in Newzealand, and KENYA at the bottom. By so doing, he makes sure no one can reach him and ask uncomfortable questions. Does Luke live in Kisumu Kenya, or in Australia?
    5. Luke sent out an email 15 months ago that he had hired a new director of ECC in Kenya from England. This became yet another lie among many, causing me to ask: who is “Dr” Luke’ Tamu’s intended audience for these lies which any Kenyan can dispute?
Is he aware that he can no longer compartmentalize information on the web?

    Zabde-Ezra Ayienga,
    Toronto Canada.

    • There is no personal agenda I have with Luke.
We disagree because he is a manipulator and an abuser of trust.
I have sent several emails to Luke warning him that I will be going PUBLIC with what I now know as the TRUTH about his “Nigerian-style” scamming. His last email to me did not take may warning serious. I have now placed on the web the truth about his behavior. He has worked his way into the PRIVATE homes of people across western Europe, Canada and the USA, pretending to be the following:
      1. A holder of a PHD 2. A philanthropist 3. A public speaker 4. A founder and manager of a) Utatu Theological College b) ECC c) The African Orphan.
      5. A Methodist minister based in Newzealand
      6. A married man in Australia
      7. A crusade speaker in the Scandinavians and in Nairobi Kenya.
      8. That thru ECC he has established a hospital in Busia Kenya.
I must admit that I was hurt when BBCF became one of his scam victims. But I never relied on his money for the growth of BBCF.
So I am not going public for revenge. It is to STOP LUKE from hurting christian families across the World.
